Toyin Aimakhu debunks marrying younger lover

‘My husband is three years older than me’

ON Monday, July 8, 2013, popular thespian, Toyin Aimakhu and hubby, Adeniyi Johnson, also an actor, formalized their union at Ikoyi Marriage Registry, Lagos.  The event was attended by a couple of family members from both sides, friends and colleagues of the couple.

Later in the day, a small but classy reception was held at Sabitex Hotel, Lekki/Epe Expressway, Victoria Island, Lagos.  The ceremony paraded colourful personalities in the industry, including Yemi Solade, Fathia Balogun, Desmond Elliot, Iyabo Ojo, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, Yomi Fabiyi, Dayo Amusa, Foluke Daramola and hubby among others.

It was indeed a memorable day in the lives of the couple as they were said to be utterly joyous and excited about the enviable development.

However, no sooner than they legalized their wedding, news started flying that the pretty actress actually married a younger lover.  This Aimakhu reacted to when ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with her on Thursday, July 11, 2013.  She described the tale as not only untrue but unfounded and laughable.

According to the brilliant role interpreter, she is three years younger than her husband, whom she said has clocked 33 while she will be 30 in September this year.  She, therefore, advised those sponsoring the fake story to find something better to do with their time.

“Some people are jobless, that’s why they are saying rubbish.  I am responding to this not because I am interested in granting any interview now but because you’re my friend.  If not, I don’t need to bother myself on anything like that.

“To put the record straight, my husband is older than me with not less than three years.  He was born in 1980 and by September 5, 2013, I, Toyin Aimakhu-Johnson will be 30.  So, who is older between the two of us?  Also, he graduated from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State in 2003, while I graduated from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago Iwoye, Ogun State in 2005/2006.

“The only thing is that he is a junior colleague by virtue of the fact that I got into the industry before him, and I am also more popular than him, that’s all.”

Asked to describe how it feels marrying Johnson, the Edo born film maker expressed total joy.  She added that marrying him is the best thing that has ever happened to her.  “Marrying Niyi is the best thing ever.  Ever since he came into my life, he has taught and shown me so many things concerning life. He has also changed my perspective of life generally.  My husband has so many things other men out there don’t have.  Aside being a handsome man, he is very amiable, intelligent and God fearing.

“We didn’t just marry, we only celebrated our wedding. We have been married since February 2013.  And we’re enjoying our union.  We thank God for the success of the celebration.  Although, it was a small party, we’re satisfied with the turn out, despite the heavy rain.  We can’t afford to go beyond that, that’s why we organized something commensurate with our financial capability.  We thank God for the success of the event. All we need is prayer form our fans out there.”
