Tragic! Ice bucket challenge co-founder drowns in swimming accident

Corey Griffin, who helped turn the ice bucket challenge into an online viral sensation, died at the weekend after drowning in a swimming accident in Massachusetts.

According to the Nantucket police, he dived into the water from the “Juice Guys” building at around 2 a.m. He was recovered by a nearby off-duty Nantucket lifeguard and was transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

Griffin had helped raise $100,000 at a charity function on Nantucket Island on Friday (August 15) night. He helped promote the Ice bucket challenge after his close friend, Pete Frates, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2012.
