Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, is to stand trial over £3.2 million tax fraud charges and could face up to six years in jail if found guilty.
Prosecutors had agreed to drop the charges against Messi after his father paid the court £3.9 million to settle the dispute with the Spanish taxman.
But the Spanish Treasury refused to drop the case and yesterday (October 3), an investigating magistrate in Gava, near Barcelona ruled that the 27-year-old star will be tried over three counts of tax evasion.
