UNILAG shut after students’ violent protest

The management of the University of Lagos has asked students to vacate the campus immediately after violent protests against poor electricity and water supply on campus.

In a public notice obtained by encomium.ng, UNILAG authorities say the decision was reached after the Senate reviewed the state of the university in an emergency meeting held on Thursday, April 7, 2016.

Blaming the infrastructural challenges facing UNILAG on ‘poor municipal services’ occasioned by the nationwide fuel crisis, UNILAG authorities ordered students to leave their Halls of Residence with immediate effect, warning no student should remain in their Halls of Residence after 10am today (Friday, April 8,2016).

The Senate however, assured the decision to reopen for normal academic activities will be taken as soon as municipal services improve.

The UNILAG’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olagoke Oke was not available to confirm this development when encomium.ng called him this morning.
