About 100 brains reported missing from a University of Texas research lab in Austin, Texas (USA) were actually destroyed 12 years ago, because they were in poor condition, school officials have said.
The university released a statement yesterday (Wednesday, December 3), saying a preliminary investigation found that environmental workers disposed of the brains after faculty members concluded that the specimens weren’t suitable for research or teaching purposes.
It also said a committee would be appointed to investigate the decision to destroy some of the brains anyhow all the specimens have been handled since the school received the collection.
