NOLLYWOOD, the world’s second largest movie industry, may be down but definitely not out. With some of its players cornering fame and mega bucks, they have carved a niche for themselves, while many watched and applauded their creative exploits.
And using subjective criteria like movie appearances, commercial value and popularity, ENCOMIUM Weekly unveils some of Nollywood’s bankable actors right now.
Genny, as she is fondly called, is one of Africa’s brightest stars; the singer, actress and fashion designer is a hugely successful
actress.
The 35-year-old Mbaise, Imo-born screen goddess started her career in 1987, when the then 8-year-old star featured in soap opera, Ripples. Today, the Tango with me star, a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; has starred in several highly successful movies (including Half of a Yellow Sun; Ije). She has won many awards for her craft and has been referred to as the ‘Julia Roberts of Africa’.
Clearly a lover of fashion, the chocolate-skinned beauty owns a stylish clothing line, St. Genevieve which she re-launched last year. She also has a not-so-successful album (One Logologo line), launched in 2004, to her name.
The former Face of Lux is the queen of endorsements in Nigeria having endorsed brands such as Range Rover Evoque; Etisalat (a deal reportedly worth N100m); Amstel Malta; Polo; Cintrion Energy drink. She also has a partnership deal with Jumia online store.
These days, it will cost at least N1.5 million to get the very-selective multiple award-winning thespian to feature in a movie.
With a chain of property in Ghana (reportedly worth $4 million); Lekki and Egbeda both in Lagos; a fleet of cars which include a N35m Mercedes Benz G-Wagon; Genny is Nigeria’s most bankable movie star.
