TWO out of the eight pregnant girls rescued from the Akute, Ogun State baby factory weeks back have delivered their babies. The two girls, Blessing Saviour (17) and Joy Okwo (20), delivered a baby boy and girl respectively on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the State General Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
And a week later, on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, the two babies were christened. Blessing Saviour’s baby was named King David Etimbo Omotoyosi Amosun, while Joy Okwo’s baby was named Queen Elizabeth Onyinyechukwu Morayoninuoluwa Amosun. The development was confirmed by the Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Elizabeth Sonubi, who counseled that the girls have an opportunity to live a new life.
“They have an opportunity to live a new life. They can go back to school or go into business and be a model to others. The Commissioner also confirmed there are seven other awaiting mothers expected to deliver soon.”
The Akute baby factory was busted by the police on Friday, March 21, 2014, rescuing eight pregnant girls and the operator of the centre, 39 year-old Angela Chigoeze was nabbed. The girls were kept at Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the Ogun State Police Command and they were later relocated to Stella Obasanjo Children’s Home in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
