Update on Lafogido’s petition over Ooni’s stool – Court adjourns to October 15 ‘We’re not bothered’

OSUN State High Court, Osogbo, on Friday, October 9, 2015, further adjourned hearing on the petition brought before it by the Lafogido Ruling House of Ile-Ife over the selection process of the successor of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade to Thursday, October 15, 2015.

According to a reliable source, the reason for the adjournment this time around was not unconnected with the fact that the presiding judge, Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe was not on seat.  He was said to be attending to some other official matters outside the state.

“The legal battle between the Lafogido Ruling House and Ife Kingmakers and Osun State Government is yet to know any end.  The case has been adjourned again.  I learnt the Judge, Justice Aderibigbe wasn’t on seat.  But another date has been fixed for the hearing of the case.  And that’s Thursday, October 15, 2015.”

“The way things are going now, I don’t think the matter can be resolved this year.  That means having a new Ooni in Ife will drag beyond expectation.”

Reacting to the development, one of the top contenders for the revered throne and a member of the Giesi Ruling House, Larooka of Wanikin, Oba Adewale Ojutalayo maintained that Giesi Royal Family remains unperturbed by Lafogido’s petition. Not only that, he’s optimistic that the crown is surely coming to Giesi family.

He, however, appealed to all the sons and daughters of Ife Kingdom to remain calm as there is nothing to panic about in the ongoing battle.

“Yes, the court sat on the petition by Lafogido on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, and the case was adjourned to Friday, October 9, 2015.  Now, the case has been further adjourned to Thursday, October 15, 2015.

“However, our position in the Giesi family has not changed.  We’re producing the next Ooni by the special grace of God.  And whosoever emerges the candidate for the throne, we will all rally round and give him the needed support because we all believe it’s God that has chosen him.

“One thing I am sure of it is that at the end of it all, we will all celebrate.  There will be peace in Ife as a kingdom, peace in Yorubaland and the entire Nigeria.”

Reacting to the issue, former Commissioner for Art, Culture and Tourism in Osun State, Prince Sikiru Ayedun who is also a high profile contender for the exalted stool said his ambition is still intact in spite of the legal tussle.

“Yes, I am still in the race.  The ongoing legal battle has nothing to do with my aspiration.  And by the special grace of God, I will get the crown.”

Meanwhile, Lafogido Ruling House had on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, been granted an injunction by the court following the formal announcement by Ife kingmakers which restricted presentation of candidates for Ooni’s stool to the Giesi Ruling House.

The injunction which was granted by Justice Aderibigbe of the Osun State High Court, Osogbo, is sequel to a suit filed by the Lafogido Ruling House seeking an order restraining the Osun State Government, the Obalufe of Ife, Oba Solomon Omisakin and the Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola from taking further action on the Ooni’s throne pending the determination of the matter before the court.
