US legislators agree $1 tr budget deal to avoid shutdown

Lawmakers in the United States of America have reached a last-minute deal on a spending package to avert a federal shutdown and delay a politically-charged struggle over President Barack Obama’s new immigration policy until the new year.

The $1 trillion (N184tr) package includes funding most of the government through September while kicking a high-stakes battle over immigration into next year.

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid said: “The federal government’s going to run out of money in two days. We’ve been trying to work with Republican leaders to avoid a shutdown”.
