Would you say the show went as planned?
Yes, the show went as planned and God made it happened. It was beyond my expectation. There were enormous moments, but my performances on stage were just spectacular, and I am happy all the stars gave their best.
How you describe the show being your first outing?
It was my first stand up show and it was really a great experience. I had my colleagues in the industry supporting me. Before the event, it was a marathon and I thank God for having good friends that came to lend a hand. It takes a lot of funds to stage such event and together we tried with good partnership to achieve that feat.
Let’s talk about stand-up comedy in Nigeria. How would you rate it?
Stand up comedy in Nigeria has come of age and I’ll rate it 7/10 because a lot of people enjoy this genre of comedy. The business is now more of a profession than a play tool. Making people laugh is not easy, that’s why you need skills apart from being gifted.
Who are your mentors, and why are you looking up to them?
AY is my mentor in the business and I have been looking up to him from my university days and I worked with him, learning the trade under his nose, I Go Dye and Martin Lawrence also. I look up to them because they reel in comedy and understand the business of the game.
Was there a time you did jokes and people didn’t laugh?
There was a time it didn’t enter and I felt really down but as I grew in the business, the right experience to counter such moments built in me and I geared towards doing better. So, I had such moments but I have passed that beat.
How is marriage treating you?
Marriage is interesting because it’s a new order. I have learnt to be patient and considerate. it’s not a pool but a sea where you have to swim the whole corners.
What has changed about you since you got married?
What has changed really is the kind of time I spend outside my house. Now, I have to go home every day and in good time.
