Video: Jonathan’s man, Peterside drums support for Buhari’s subsidy removal

Founder, Stanbic IBTC Bank Nigeria, Atedo Peterside has urged Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s removal of subsidy on petrol as this was the best time to do so.

Peterside, a staunch supporter of former President, Goodluck Jonathan and a member of his economic team was speaking today on Channels TV where he insisted that the case for deregulation now was stronger than it was in 2012.

He said, “If anything, the case for deregulation is even stronger now than in 2012 for a variety of reasons. I’m among those who believe that the prices of crude oil have changed forever with the advent of shale producers. The revenue profile of Nigeria is worse today than it was in 2012.

“The argument, if you remember in 2012 was that people said they wouldn’t mind adjustments if only the government itself would take some pain. This government has shown that they are willing to take some pain; from the President to the Vice and so on. If you don’t do it with this government, I don’t know when you’ll ever do it.
