Wayne Rooney ready for England captaincy challenge

England’s new skipper, Wayne Rooney has insisted that he has come of age as he prepares to lead his country onto the pitch for the first time as the Three Lions’ captain.

The Manchester United forward was handed the armband last week following the retirement of Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard and he is set to lead his team later tonight in a friendly against Norway at the Wembley stadium.

He said: ‘It’s great to be able to captain my country and something I’m very proud of’, before adding ‘tomorrow (today September 3) is the start of a new chapter’.
