Electricity consumers say they are worse off with the power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) than the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) or the former NEPA.
They gave their reasons in these interviews with our reporters….

They do one day on and three days off but there is no difference. We are meant to have power supply. I have always been paying N5,000 monthly but no difference.
No. They bring crazy bills knowing that there is no power supply and I keep wondering where they get regular all their measurement.

No. In fact, I do not know the difference between NEPA, PHCN and the new DISCO. I spend nothing less than N5,000 per month for electricity.
It is not cheap at all because if we pay so much and we do not get value for what we paid for, then it does not make sense to me. For me, they have never been reliable but we hope for the best.

Power hasn’t improved, the only thing that’s on the rise is the cost for close to non-existent supply. I pay nothing less than N10,000 every month. Meaning it’s increasing monthly.
Of course not. It’s horrible and I send mails complaining to them regularly.

They brought N30,000 bill the last time. They bring light once in a while. The bill is what I call crazy. How can we pay N30,000 when we don’t have light regularly? We have disconnected our wire and we now use fuel because it’s cheaper. Even if we use N30,000 fuel, we will have light 24 hours a day.

We pay N10,000 now, but we were paying N5,000 before. It’s not encouraging but we are better than some places. We had light regularly before, but now it has reduced.

We still have a long way to go concerning the power sector. Nothing is working as expected. Despite the handling of electricity by DISCOS, nothing has changed upon all the promises. In my area (Abule Egba) we don’t experience regular supply of electricity and the tariff is almost double. It’s not cheaper at all rather it’s getting worse. My bill had always between N2,350 and N3,400. But now, the minimum has always been N5,785. Although, we’re yet to install prepaid metre, maybe when we switch on to that, things will be regulated.

I don’t think there is any improvement in electricity supply since the DISCOS took charge because we hardly get light just as it was when they were PHCN. At times, we have light for about three to four hours per day. And before, we used to pay N3,750 per flat as monthly tariff but now, it has been increased to N7,450 minimum. Yet, power supply still remains the same. It’s not cheaper neither is it reliable. So, there is no justification for the hike in tariff at all.
