‘We didn’t collect a dime to campaign for APC’ – YINKA QUADRI

VETERAN actor cum film maker, Alhaji Olayinka Akanni Quadri, simply addressed as Yinka Quadri has denied collecting N3m from All Progressives Congress (APC) to shoot a movie for the party let alone such a purported amount tearing himself and other Yoruba actors apart.  He added that it’s nothing but a figment of people’s imagination.

He further described the tale as not only baseless but spurious.

Speaking with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, February 6, 2015, the Agbaakin of Oro Kingdom, Oro, Kwara State expressed discomfort about the tale, urging those behind it to shift their attention to a profitable venture rather than wasting their valuable time on unnecessary gossip.

However, he admitted shooting a movie, Itesiwaju, in conjunction with other top Yoruba actors, including Oga Bello, Jide Kosoko, Lola Shobowale, Muka Ray, Alapinni and was endorsed by over 90 per cent of Yoruba theatre practitioners.

“People are only interested in peddling useless and baseless rumours instead of investing their time on issues that will transform the industry and Nigeria as a whole.  Yes, we campaign for APC.  I don’t see anything wrong in that.  As Nigerians, we also have the right to identify with any political party of our choice.  But that doesn’t mean the party had given money for doing what we’re doing.  Akinwunmi Ambode didn’t give anything nor did party give us a dime before campaigning for the party and Ambode.

“It’s true we shot a movie, Itesiwaju.  It’s a project by only six of us – Myself, Oga Bello, Jide Kosoko, Sola Shobowale, Alapinni and Muka Ray.  The flick is just our contribution to the ongoing campaign.  We chose to identify with APC because we also love change.  We’re campaigning for Akinwunmi Ambode in Lagos because we know he would do it, not because he gave us anything.  The movie was sponsored by the six of us that I just mentioned but was endorsed by about 90 something per cent of the people in the Yoruba movie genre.  And we’re glad we achieved the goal.  The movie will be handed over to the party next week.  To say it loud and clear, the party didn’t give us kobo let alone the money tearing us apart.  We’re all responsible and hard working individuals.”

Probed on what could have informed the rumour, he reacted, “I just don’t know.  They are only trying to premise their frivolous gossip on mere imagination.  They think every entertainer campaigning for a politician or party has collected money which is not true.  We can’t start bothering ourselves about such a useless issue when we have a lot of beautiful things at hand.”
