Jewel Shuping (30), who is suffering from Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID), a condition in which able-bodied people believe they are meant to be disabled, arranged to have drain cleaner poured into her eyes to make her blind.
Ms Shuping, whose desire to go blind was so strong, decided to visit a sympathetic psychologist to help her with the process.
She has always wanted to be blind by childhood -spending hours staring at the sun to watching sunspots which could damage the eyes.
It took her six months for the drain cleaner to make her go blind effectively.
“My eyes were screaming and I had some drain cleaner going down my cheek burning my skin. But all I could think was ‘I am going blind, it is going to be okay,” she said.
Her family has since disowned her after finding out it wasn’t an accident.
