What Buhari’s ministers will earn

PENDING the approval of the new remuneration package being put together by Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the newly sworn-in ministers will be earning N14,171,600 per annum while Ministers of State will get N12,793,090 per annum.

A minister’s N13,171,600 per annum emolument consists of basic salary of N2,026,400 per annum; housing allowance of N4,052,800 per annum; motor vehicle maintenance/fuelling allowance of N1,519,800 per annum; personal assistant allowance of N506,600 per annum; domestic allowance of N1,519,800 per annum; entertainment allowance of N911,880 per annum; utilities allowance of N607,920 per annum; newspapers/periodicals allowance of N303,960 per annum; furniture allowance of N1,519,800 per annum and leave bonus allowance of N202,640.

A Minister of State’s total emolument of N12,793,090 per annum consists of basic salary of N2,026,400 per annum; housing allowance of N3,915,160 per annum; motor vehicle maintenance/fuelling allowance of N1,468,185 per annum; personal assistant allowance of N489,395 per annum; domestic allowance of N1,468,185 per annum; entertainment allowance of N880,911 per annum; utilities allowance of N6587,274 per annum; newspapers/periodicals allowance of N293,637 per annum; furniture allowance of N1,468,185 per annum and leave bonus allowance of N195,758.

Other perks of office for a minister include N8,105,600 car loan which is payable at the end of his four year tenure; tour duty allowance of N35,000 per night and estacode of $900 per night.  There are also allowances for security personnel, medicals and special assistants which are provided for but the amounts are not specified.

If this 2009, RMAFC remuneration package for public officers is not reviewed by 2019, each minister will collect a serviceable gratuity of N6,079,200 each.
