GBENGA ADEYINKA

Accept our condolences on the demise of your father-in-law?

Thank you.

How will you describe him?

He was a strong and fair man. He was also funny.

What will you miss about him?

I will miss his fairness. He told the truth at all times. I will miss his humour as well.

When last did you see him?

About two months ago.

What was the best advice he gave you?

It was when I was getting married he told me that I should not exceed 4 p.m when I go out to work. If not, I should be prepared to go hungry. Anytime I exceeded that time, I always remembered what he told me.

ABIOLA ADEYINKA, Daughter

Accept our condolences on the passage of your father?

Thank you very much.

How and when did it happen?

It happened on Sunday, August 10, 2014, around 12.30 a.m. Before he passed on, he was sick for a couple of days. My mother called me while I was at work on a Thursday that she did not understand how my dad was behaving. So, I took permission from work to see him. He was sleeping when I got there. When he woke, I asked him what happened and he said he was sick. We tried to give him food but he couldn’t eat. He couldn’t even walk by himself. He was supported. After sitting for a while, he said he wanted to go back to bed. So, we took him inside and I left.

I was there the second day but there was no improvement though he ate. On the third day, we decided to take him to the hospital. By then, it was as if he was going into coma. I was there shaking his leg but he did not respond. He passed on the following day.

How old was he?

He was 87.

What fond memories of his do you still hold dear to you?

My father was a generous and accommodating man. He was funny as well. He gave quite a number of my friends nicknames. He was a very handsome man. Women were always after him. He had a glowing skin. You wouldn’t even know he was up to 87.

Can you recall the best advise he ever gave you?

That we should be in one accord, love each other and we should worship God and take Him as our all in all.

What was his profession?

He was into insurance. He had his own company, Nigeria Executive Brokers Limited.

What about your mother?

She is a retired school principal. She is trying to get over it. It was just the two of them at home. They were like five and six.

How many children was he blessed with?

Three children.

What about the burial plan?

About three, four weeks ago, he called all his children and told us what he wanted. So, we will bury him in his house. The burial ceremony begins from Thursday, September 11 to Friday, September 12, 2014.
