Over 1.5 million Britons have signed a petition requesting that a fresh poll on the future of United Kingdom and the European Union be staged afresh, following Thursday, June 23 referendum where those who voted exit won by 51.9 percent to 48.1.
This petition, the most popular ever, hinges its argument on the fact that the margin of victory was far less than 20 percent and voters turn out was just 72.2 percent.
There are protests in London following Brexit victory, with many complaining that the 4 points margin was inadequate in such a momentous referendum.
At Thursday’s poll, 33.5 million voted, with just 1,269,501 votes difference between leave and remain.
Since the petition, mainly signed by those who live around London, has passed the 100,000 mark, Parliament will have to look into the issue of a rerun. Petitions which get more than 100,000 signatures must be considered by Parliament within six months.
And by Saturday, June 25 afternoon, the signatures had crossed 1.5 million!
