‘Why I am featuring Olamide and Oritse Femi in Jamisi remix’’ – Banjo

Banjo Aladegbami, popularly known as Banjo, is the next big thing to watch out for in the music industry. His two songs, Jamisi and Jeko ye won are ruling the airways in most radio and television stations. The video of Jeko ye won will be released in a couple of days. It was shot by Unlimited LA.

Banjo is also working on the remix of his song, Jamisi. He is featuring Olamide and Oritse Femi.

ENCOMIUM Weekly had an interview with him about his foray into music and why he is working with Olamide and Oritse Femi…

Can we meet you?

My name is Banjo Aladegbami, my stage name is Banjo. I am a street hiphop, inspirational artiste. I am a graduate of UNILAG. I studied Mathematics and Statistics.

How did the journey into the music world began?

It started in 2008. I realized that I could do music professionally as a result of the encouragement from people who have listened to my song. I also like reaching out to the youths, most especially through my words of advice to them. So, I decided to go into music professionally

You also own a record label, tell us about it and how you hope to sustain it?

I started my record label, Hifi Entertainment in 2009. It is registered. I just thought of the business part of music and decided to set up a record label. Growing a company is not easy, but we are getting there. We have artistes already signed to the label and we are doing fine.

We have different departments, the audio and video. We don’t only sign artistes, we also do both audio and video for our clients as well. That is a means of keeping the label in business.

Apart from music and record label, what else puts food on your table?

I also do buying and supplying. I get quotations for clients and supply materials as well.

How will you describe the experience?

It has been tough. We all know that it is not easy to become a man but God has been helping us too.

What are you working on now?

I am working on Jeko ye won video. It is my way of advising people who are up there not to maltreat the up and coming ones. Most of them have forgotten that they didn’t start from the top.

The video will be out this month. It was shot by one of the best hands in musical videos, Unlimited LA. The song captures the rag to riches stories of most of our superstars.

Tell us about the artistes on your record label?

I have three artistes, Paul Nature, A Davies and Ace also known as Alhaji. Ace is doing well. He appeared in Timaya’s video Shanko. Very soon these guys will blow up.

What artistes will you like to work with?

I am already working on the remix of Jamisi with Oritse Femi and Olamide. Any moment from now, the remix will hit the market. Most likely before the end of the year.

I draw inspirations from the likes of 2Pac and Fela. They are both philosophical in their approach. Fela also sings for the people in the street. I am working with Olamide because he has rich lyrics and popular among young fans.
