‘Why I identify with governorship aspirants’-Saidi Balogun

FAMOUS actor and President of The Movie Ambassadors (TMA), Saidi Balogun has cleared the air on the criticisms trailing his appearance at the declaration of Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) guber aspirant, Dr. Leke Pitan, held a couple of days back.

In a phone chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, November 21, 2014, the popular thespian said, “It’s true I was at the governorship declaration of Dr. Leke Pitan which held recently in Lagos.  I was there on invitation. He recognized me, that’s why I was invited.  I don’t see anything wrong in that.

“Maybe some people are confused or they are just being hypocritical, that’s why they are criticizing my participation at the rally.

“Let me put the record straight, I never said entertainers should not campaign for politicians again. My point was clear on that.  I only said we shouldn’t campaign for any lawmaker seeking second term.  And the reason is very clear.  I believe these are the people in the custody of laws, and they have never done anything serious about piracy which has killed the industry.  So, when they are not doing anything to advance our career, why do we need to flock around them, singing their praises?  That was exactly my stance.

“If I see anybody aspiring to be governor or even local government chairman, I can identify with him.  As I speak with you now, I am on my way from Ibadan, Oyo State on invitation by Governor Isiaka Ajimobi.  If I see a credible aspirant or candidate that has the interest of entertainers at heart, I won’t mind to campaign for the person, not because of money.”
