‘Why I wrote Donjazzyfied’ – Kehinde Ajose

Kehinde Ajose is a journalist, publicist, and talent development strategist. He has released his new book titled: Donjazzyfied lessons drawn from Don Jazzy on how to move from ‘Best kept secret’ to becoming a ‘Don’ in your field.

The book is not about Don Jazzy but about an understanding of our struggles with dreams, desire to succeed, guidelines for achievement of dreams, and the answer to that doubtful questions we have been battling with over our dreams.

In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly, Kehinde opens up on the reason he wrote a book on Don jazzy and many more.

What inspired the title Donjazzyfied?

I am an individual who loves to do things in an unconventional way. When I decided to write the book, using Don Jazzy as a case-study, I wanted an unusual title. A title that will get attention and also elicit questions. I was in the bathroom when the title came.

I pondered over it and also consulted some professionals in the writing business. We finally decided to make use of that title.

How did you come about the concept?

The concept was birthed out of the need to tell proudly Nigerian stories. If the western media intentionally celebrates and showcases the success stories of their own, we should follow the same path. A lot of Nigerians have lost hope in Nigeria. The Don Jazzy success story is one out of countless tales of young Nigerians making a difference through their God-given talents and abilities. The vision is to inspire hope in the Nigerian and also provide the tools by which the readers can become the dons (remarkable individuals) in their fields.

What is the vision and mission of the book Donjazzyfied?

Donjazzyfied is about the lessons drawn from Don Jazzy on how to move from best kept secret to becoming a don in your field. It’s not a motivational book, though you will be inspired when you read it. It’s a book that explores the tools and strategies you need to emerge a high value individual. The Donjazzyfied story is a narrative of hope.

Don Jazzy once sold akara in Ajegunle, today he is one of the most influential showbiz personalities in Africa. It’s like the story of Olajumoke the bread seller whose story continues to inspire us not to give up on our dreams in spite of temporary setbacks. The vision is hope, the mission is focused on talent development, being an exceptional brand and lot’s more.

Why the choice of Don Jazzy instead of any other successful artiste or businessman?

I didn’t plan to write a book on Don Jazzy. It’s not intentional. I wrote an article in 2014 on how Don Jazzy maximizes Twitter as a tool to gain visibility for his brand. It generated lots of response and Don Jazzy had to retweet on Twitter. This retweet encouraged me and I decided to develop it into a book.

Why should I read the book Donjazzyfied?

In this part of the world, we hardly document the inspiring stories of those who have achieved great ends through humble means. Donjazzyfied is a collector’s item. It’s a story every Nigerian can relate to. It’s not an adapted tale of a successful American.

Second, this book will teach you how to convert your disappointment into opportunities to succeed. In

addition, it’s written in an easy to read way in which will make the reader stay glued to the book from the beginning of the book to the end. A friend read the book and she was so engrossed in it that her food almost got burnt. That’s what the book can do.

What are key lessons from the book?

One of the key lessons is Dream of a better version of you. Don Jazzy came from a humble background but through dedication and diligence he dreamt of a better version of himself and inspiring others to do so.

Another lesson one can adopt from Don jazzy is what I called a Next level mindset. Mavin Records, owned by Don Jazzy has released lots of hit songs, yet they don’t rest on their laurels. Instead, they continue to upgrade themselves and become better at what they do. This is a mindset that entrepreneurs and career people need to embrace if they desire to be remarkable in their fields.

What stands it out from every other book of its kind?

Donjazzyfied is written in a simple and easy to read language. It’s not just filled with principles and case-studies, but it also shows you the pathway to becoming remarkable at what you do.

Against the back drop of the waning reading culture in Nigeria, how much will Donjazzyfied help in that regard?

The book has been written in such a way that it can be read in less than 60 minutes. It’s a mini book that is devoid of unnecessary details. All these are put in place in order to encourage the readership of the book.

Besides, we also have the e-book version of the book.

Though the reading culture is waning, there are other creative mediums by which we can encouraging

reading culture.

Who are the target audience of Donjazzyfied?

Whoever you are or whatever you do, Donjazzyfied will appeal to you.
