Why PRESIDENT BUHARI abandoned Aso Villa for rented apartment

THE Presidency has revealed the reason President Muhammadu Buhari is currently operating from a rented apartment in Abuja instead of the Presidential Villa.

President Muhammadu Buhari would not be moving into the Aso Rock presidential palace until it is fully renovated, according to Mallam Garba Shehu.

Shehu, who is Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity), told reporters at the Defence House last week, that President Buhari is still staying in his rented apartment in Abuja pending the time the renovation is completed.

“They claim some renovation was going on; ‎the place is being cleaned up for his occupation.  The contractors are probably working at their own pace.  If I need to know or you need to know this, probably we have to talk to someone. I am not saying he’s comfortable where he is at his rented house, but he is operating from there at the moment and when the Villa is ready, he will move.”

Aso Villa, also called Presidential villa, is the official residence of Nigerian President.  Built in 1991 by former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, Buhari would be the fourth Executive President to live here.

But from all indications, he would be operating from a rented apartment in FCT Abuja until contractors handling the renovation of the place complete their job.

It would also be recalled that a couple of men of God as well as clerics from other faiths had advised the new President to cleanse the Villa before moving in with his household.

It is expected that the first family would operate from the luxury and fortified apartment in few weeks.
