Why Togo is lobbying Dangote for a refinery

In his bid to realise possible partnership and investment ambition with Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Plant, Mr Faure Gnassingbe, Togo’s President, today (August 2, 2016) arrived the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (Lagos) for a visit to the Dangote Refinery at the Lekki Trade Zone.

President Gnassingbe  and his entourage were received by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies, Mr. Femi Otedola, Chairman, Zenon Oil and Forte Oil, Mr. Okechukwu  Enelamah, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, among others.

President  Gnassingbe  is to visit to the $14 billion Dangote Refinery, which is projected to refine about 65,000 barrels of crude oil per day and could become one of the biggest refineries in the world. Establishing business partnership between Dangote Group and Togo would definitely have significant economic impact on Faure’s country.

Before now Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, disclosed when he visited that Dangote Refinery would be completed by the first quarter of 2019.
