‘Why we want Jonathan back’ – GLGP

An independent group known as Goodluck Lagos Grassroot Project has thrown its weight behind the re-election of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential election.

Addressing the press on Thursday, January 16, 2015, the group said the President had performed beyond expectation despite distractions and hereby deserves another opportunity.

Reeling out some of the achievements of the president, a member of the group, barrister Wale Onile-Ere said the president has performed in the areas of agriculture, electricity, road construction, infrastructure development and many more. In his words, “This administration has recorded more convictions than any other administration. Its agriculture programmes have resulted in job creation. On education, the administration ensured that 12 states got federal universities. Jonathan has built Almajeri schools in the north, ensured massive road rehabilitation and lots more. It baffles us when people claim that they have not seen the achievements of the present administration.’

Echoing Onile-Ere’s line of thought, the Secretary of the group, Mr. Sunday Olaifa, said Jonathan had done well in spite of the security challenges in Nigeria.

“We do not see anyone that could have achieved better under the circumstances that the present administration operates. The president has done well and can do better. Jonathan has succeeded in putting the economy on a sound footing. It is in our best interest to allow Jonathan’s transformation agenda to continue.”

He expressed regret that some Nigerians were using the nation’s misfortunes such as security challenges to campaign.

According to him, some politicians and other Nigerians condemn Jonathan’s administration because of terrorist attacks in the country.

“The president is fighting a good war in spite of distractions and detractors. We decided to work for re-election of President Jonathan for continuity of his agenda for Nigeria.

“In view of his numerous achievements, we will do our best to ensure success for him in Lagos State.

“We are going to the grassroots for his re-election. We are going to engage the traders, artisans and religious leaders to the least person in Lagos. It is going to be an aggressive campaign, because we can’t accept someone else to disrupt his good work.”

Speaking at the event, Lagos Mainland coordinator of the group, Taiwo Akinfolarin, who noted that the transformation agenda had truly transformed the country, was confident that Jonathan would secure 70 per cent of Lagos State votes in the next month’s election.

Meanwhile, famous Fuji musician, Abass Akande, popularly known as Obesere, who was also at the press briefing has promised to use his popularity to garner votes for the president come February 14.
