Why you should never ask, ‘How was your night?’

The early morning pleasantry, ‘how was your night?’ is so invasive that many Nigerians take offence when asked.

The straight translation from our local languages inquiring whether we had a restful night is unacceptable in English.
It means, ‘Did you enjoy your romp? Was the sex good?’
And no one wants their sexual escapades known to strangers or acquaintances!
Instead, ‘good morning’ is enough. It’s acceptable, formal and polite.
Only close friends of the same sex can exchange information about their sexual antics.
Next time you want to ask if someone had a restful sleep, just say: ‘Good morning!’
