Nigerian ordered to pay £100,000 to former husband after losing bid for his financial support

A 45-year-old woman (Mercy Ogbedo), who claims she was ‘duped’ into marrying a Nigerian billionaire, has been ordered to pay him £100,000 (N26.6m) after her petition for his financial support backfired.

The Finchley (north London, England) native married Nigerian shipping magnate, Moses Taiga in 2002 and has two children for the man who owns a string of properties in London (England).

She had petitioned divorce courts for his financial support after she discovered that he already had a wife from 1974.

But last year, a divorce judge ruled that despite the mother of two being ‘of limited means’, she could not be awarded a maintenance from Mr Taiga because he had their marriage voided in Nigeria. The judge, instead, ordered her to pay the hefty sum towards his legal bills.

Moses Taiga has since married a  third wife,Yinka with whom he had quadruplets.
