Women endorse waist trainers (2)

Waist trainer, body shapers and corsets have been used by women for centuries. But in recent times, it has become unusually popular and over endorsed by high profile celebrities all over the world. They have been said to reduce the size of the midsection and make the waist slimmer.

Though research has shown that waist trainers don’t really work, simply sticking to the right diet and doing exercises would naturally help reduce the waist line. Women would rather wear waist trainers because high profile celebrities endorse them as the secret behind their great bodies.

According to those in support of waist trainers, waist training is said to be a permanent means of waist reduction and re-shaping achieved by putting on a waist trainer, regular exercise and a healthy diet. Sellers of the waist trainers go as far as giving an assurance of a slimmer waist line if they are worn up to six hours daily for about a month.

Some women wear waist trainers in the quest for a permanent slim waistline, while others put it on for temporary purposes to enhance their figures on certain outfits and maybe boost their confidence.

The cost of waist trainers range from N8,000 to N25,000.

ENCOMIUM Weekly on a mission to know why women wear waist trainers, had a chat with some ladies who wear waist trainers to know why they put it on, if it has reduced their waist line, and with sellers to know if they get positive reviews from their buyers and with doctors on the dangers of wearing waist trainers.

Research has further shown that over 70 percent of women wear waist trainers daily.

Yes, I have seen changes, though I believe it is not just the waist trainer at work. I have been doing a lot of exercise and eating lot of fruits too. I wore one for about a month now. I haven’t been dedicated to it but I’ve been wearing it for about four hours a day. I’ve also been doing a lot of exercises alongside. I just measured my waist yesterday and I have lost about two inches off my waist, which I think is progress.

Do you wear a waist trainer?

Yes, I do.

Have you seen any changes?

I only wore the waist trainer for about a week. Nothing I read on the internet prepared me for the pain I felt while I wore the waist trainer. My sides were aching as the metals in the corset kept poking my sides. After a week of enduring the pain, I had to dump the corset.

So, I can’t tell if the corset works or not. For now, I will stick to a healthy diet and serious exercises.

DOCTORS WARN  ON  DANGERS OF WAIST TRAINERS

Dr Anthony

A lot of ladies have suddenly embraced the waist trainer trend. Do you think there are dangers associated with the trends?

The waist training trend is a dangerous practice and women need to be aware of the dangers the waist trainers pose, when the lungs can’t properly expand. For example, it increases the risk of pneumonia.

It also makes it difficult for the body to get the oxygen it needs, which is dangerous, especially for those that exercise while they wear the waist trainers.

Dr Aladeotan

When the waist trainer compresses the stomach area, it is also squeezing or compressing the internal organ, thereby causing excessive pressure on the internal and vital organs. Constantly restricting the ribs can cause bruising across your upper body and side thereby causing chronic pains.

A lot of ladies have suddenly embraced the waist trainer trend. Do you think there are dangers associated with the trends?

Wearing a waist trainer is very dangerous as it can reduce the flow of blood to and from the heart. This can lead to dizziness and fainting, this reminds me of the news about an actress that fainted as a result of wearing four waist trainers some weeks ago, she is lucky she didn’t have a more serious crises.
