FAMOUS actor, Desmond Elliot has finally confirmed he is running for Lagos State House of Assembly, after weeks of speculation.
The Nollywood filmmaker who stated this in a phone chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly on Friday, September 12, 2014, said he is in the race to serve Lagosians.
“It’s true I would be running for Lagos House of Assembly in 2015.”
Unveiling his campaign posters on Friday, September 12, Elliot asked his supporters to vote for him, promising to make sports development, widows aid programme, health care for the elderly, nursing mothers and children his priority. The Lagos born thespian also assured he would regularly convene town hall meetings and open door/feedback initiatives if he becomes a law maker.
“Olushola tiwa ni, vote Olushola Desmond Eliot for that change you desire. Seems all the entertainers are going under APC party. Will you vote for Desmond?” Desmond Elliot’s campaign slogans on All Progressives Congress (APC) logo say.
Asked the constituency he would be representing and his chances in the forthcoming election, Desmond who lives in the Lekki area of Lagos didn’t reply ENCOMIUM Weekly. He also declined comments on why he joined politics in the first place.
Desmond Elliot is not the only artiste who is interested in politics in the present political dispensation. Notable actors like Bob-Manuel Udokwu, a Special Assistant to Anambra state Governor (Chief Willie Obiano) and Kate Henshaw are going to State and National Assembly, respectively. Actress Funke Adesiyan and popular musician, 9ice (Abolore Akande) are equally in the race.
Also, politically exposed are Nkiru Sylvanus, Okey Bakasi and Kanayo O. Kanayo who had held political appointments in Imo and Abia State.
Added to the growing league of artiste turned political office holders are Richard Mofe Damijo, a two term Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism; movie star, Shirley Igwe (Principal Protocol to Imo state Governor, Anayo Rochas Okorocha); top movie director, Afam Okereke who is the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government, Enugu State and his colleague in the Presidency, Dickson Iroegbu, among others.
And just over the weekend, very popular Nollywood actor cum director, Desmond Elliot formally declared for Lagos House of Assembly under the APC.
