Yomi Casual, the younger brother of popular comedian, AY has opened a new office at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. He has a label that specializes in African designs cut-to-fit. Mr. Makun Olorunyomi Omoniyi spoke to ENCOMIUM Weekly on the new office and more…
How do you feel opening an office at the door step of Lekki Phase 1?
I feel so great. I feel so happy. This is what I’ve always wanted. As a fashion designer, this is all you need to get to the next level and this is the beginning.
Why did you choose Lekki and what message do you have for the people of Lekki?
I remember what one of my older friends told me. The rich people don’t go to the poor, the poor goes to the rich. Now, we are in Lekki, in the circle of the rich. They believe you are one of them, now they can patronize you.
You have been in the business for years, how do you think you can establish yourself in Lekki?
I believe in consistency. That is where my design comes in. I try to come with new designs always. I try to be creative all the time and always on top of my game.
Where do we see Yomi Casual in five years?
Yomi Casual will be well known in the whole of Africa and beyond.
You are A-list comedian, AY’s kid brother, would you say he has influenced your business?
Yes! Apart from God, he also contributed a lot to my growth. I remember when I got to Lagos, AY told me that talent is not enough, you need somebody to stand as a backbone. And indeed AY actually stood as backbone for me.
