Having been away from Nollywood for over five years with school and your political appointment, how do you plan to compensate your fans and win more of them?
The entertainment industry is always my home. I took a break but definitely not out. For my fans, we will have fun together, because it’s going to be more exciting this time.
You sure missed Nollywood?
I have always been part of Nollywood. I only missed taking my lines and interpreting new characters as they come. I really missed being on set.
You are making a big comeback with a new material, what should fans look out for in The Voice?
The Voice is a thriller, packaged just to thrill the audience with very important message and morals to teach. It’s a never seen before. The Voice is a film that stands out on its own. It’s a movie that we took out time to ensure we give our fans the quality and depth they’ve yearned for in a Nigerian movie.
The movie affects every aspect of our daily lives. The Voice is a movie you’d want to watch over and over again. It will definitely have you on the edge of your seat.
You were shooting this movie when kidnappers stormed your location in 2012 and abducted you and Kenneth Okolie before later releasing you, how was the experience?
It’s beyond our comprehension, I must say. The most important thing is that one is alive to complete the story. It wasn’t a pleasant experience at all. It may, however, interest you to know that the experience was put to good use in the completion of The Voice.
Considering your travails and your experience with the kidnappers, how do you feel now that it’s finally coming to the cinemas?
Shooting the movie, The Voice, came with a lot of challenges, challenges that are part of life experiences. The kidnap during the shoot made me a stronger person. It’s like coming in contact with death and walking out alive. So, you can imagine the excitement that I am alive today to see this movie hit limelight.
What is the movie all about?
Let me give you the synopsis. Sandy (Nkiru Sylvanus) had been told by a stranger named Jeremiah (Larry Briggs) that she will die in 90 days. To prove that she will truly die, he tells her three unusual events will precede her death. They all happened the way the stranger told her.
On the 90th day, another stranger named Solonzo (Kenneth Okolie) turns up and wants her money and may be her life. So, he kidnaps her and holds her hostage until he could access the N10 million cheque she had given him. Would she have the wisdom to live with him and would he have the patience to keep her alive? It is just 5pm, they have till 12 midnight of the 90th day to decide that. The Voice stars Kenneth Okolie,Betty Njoku- Olumowe, Larry Briggs, Edwards Fom and Daniel Lloyd.
When exactly is it hitting the screen?
Once we are done with the premiere on July 13, 2014, at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, we will let you know when to expect it.
Apart from The Voice, are you planning to reel out more movies?
Sure, The Voice is just the beginning of a new era!
Are you still Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s SA?
No comment on that, please.
With your experience working with the Imo state government, is politics something you’d like to delve into fully in the future?
Right now, I can’t predict my future with politics. Politics is something that is a part of us. Politics is part of life, life is part of politics. Politics is in what we do on daily basis. I believe that if you really want to affect people’s lives positively and effectively, you need to be in a place of power.
So, thinking about this country and affecting the lives of people positively, you must play politics. Politics in terms of government? Time will definitely tell because you can’t say politics is a no for you or a yes for you, as you move on, circumstances will make you want to look at your present and make decisions of who you want to be and how you want to carry on with your career. For me, it’s a long journey.
There is still a long way to go as long as there is life. If God blesses us with life, anything can happen. Definitely changes will come in future. But for now, I really can’t say much.
Whenever your name is mentioned nowadays, Kenneth Okolie, the former Mr. Nigeria, is usually mentioned as well. A lot of your fans may suspect you are dating?
No! That’s not true. You only hear about Kenneth mentioned alongside my name because we worked together in a couple of movies. When two celebrities work together, whenever the name of one person is mentioned there is high chance of the other being mentioned as well.
So, it’s no big deal. We only have a working relationship and that’s all. If another actor played a lead role with me in a movie, his name will definitely come up most times when I’m talked about. Kenneth Okolie is a very good actor, no doubt.
For the purpose of your fans, what is your relationship status now?
I am single, but not searching. My search is over.
So who is the lucky man?
At the right time, you will know him. I don’t think it’s time to reveal his identity yet.
Word to your fans who have missed you?
Over the years, I got so many calls from my fans who have missed me, all asking when I’m coming out with new stuffs. I want to say a big thanks to all of them for their support all these years and for waiting patiently. I will not disappoint you. For those who lost patience, please let’s make it work, for without you, my brand is dead.
