2024 has been a breakout year for Kourage Beatz NSI, who has successfully shifted from producer to artist, making waves in the Nigerian music industry.
After gaining recognition for his stellar work on tracks like ‘Asiwaju’ and his collaborations with GoodGirl LA and Cynthia Morgan, Kourage Beatz NSI delivers his debut project ‘King Of New Age,’ where he showcases not only his production expertise but also his growth as a songwriter.
The 6-track EP features an exciting mix of Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, and R&B, and co producers such as Blaisebeatz, Magicsticks, Jimanni, etc, allowing Kourage Beatz NSI to flex his musical range. Opening with ‘Filasurfa’,’ a track where his Afrobeats sound merges seamlessly with infectious pop elements, Kourage draws listeners in with a bold statement of confidence and swagger.
Kourage Beatz NSI enlisted artists like Cynthia Morgan and American singer Ellen Haad to round out the project, adding their unique voices to tracks that display global appeal while staying rooted in African sounds. On ‘Filasurfa’ featuring Cynthia Morgan, Kourage Beatz NSI plays to his strengths as both producer and vocalist, creating a song rich in melody and textured production.
However, despite its high moments, ‘King Of New Age’ is not without its faults. Some songs fall short in terms of lyrical depth, a challenge for Kourage as he navigates transitioning from producer to full-fledged artist. Tracks like ‘IDT’ featuring GoodGirl LA brim with potential but suffer from repetitive themes that may feel redundant to listeners looking for more varied content.
Kourage’s versatility shines brightest on the track ‘Dancing in the Stars,’ a collaboration with Liya, a former signee od Davido’s Davido Music Worldwide, where his ability to mix emotional depth with danceable beats is on full display. The fusion of Reggae and Afro rhythms on the song exemplifies the New Age sound he is crafting—one that seeks to push boundaries while remaining accessible.
In terms of production quality, Kourage Beatz NSI is unmatched. His intricate layering and use of live instrumentation create a sonic richness that enhances the project’s cohesion. Yet, some arrangements on the EP could have benefited from sharper transitions and tighter execution.
The ‘King Of New Age’ EP reveals Kourage Beatz NSI as an artist with immense potential. While there are moments where the songwriting could be more refined, Kourage’s ability to craft captivating beats and deliver emotionally resonant tracks places him among the most exciting emerging artists in Nigeria.
