Nigerian gamer and streamer Ayere-Victor Great Ehinome, popularly known as Khalamanja, raised a question many in Nigeria’s gaming and streaming community have long wanted answered during MTN Nigeria’s Data on Trial on June 6, 2026.

“A huge number of gamers and streamers in Nigeria are one of the highest data consumers. We have different data plans, for example, the YouTube plan. Is it possible for particular data bundles to be structured for gaming and streaming?”
Responding to the question, Idowu Adesokan, General Manager for Segments and Devices, MTN Nigeria, acknowledged the growing gaming community and hinted that dedicated plans may be on the way.
“The truth is that we monitor and we look at your behaviour and we keep doing things every day,” he said. “We’ve seen the behaviour that the gaming community is growing and we’ve spoken to our partners, people who run games, the OTT players for games, and we’re looking at how to work in partnership with them to give you what you want. Just watch the space, and you’d see something from us.”

The exchange highlighted a growing reality, which is that people use data differently. As a result, future data plans could be designed with particular user groups and online behaviours in mind, rather than relying solely on broad, general-purpose bundles.
Nigeria’s gaming and streaming industry has grown significantly in recent years, with creators and competitive gamers increasingly dependent on stable, high-volume data connections to build audiences and generate income. For this community, data is a working tool.
The Data on Trial event, hosted on June 6, 2026, brought together digital creators, influencers, lawyers, and tech voices to interrogate MTN Nigeria’s data practices in an open, live session. At the start of the session, MTN Nigeria’s Group CEO, Karl Toriola, explained the thinking behind the event. Rather than asking customers to simply take the company’s word for it, he said the goal was to provide access to information, answer questions publicly, and allow people to draw their own conclusions.
