A Chinese senior energy official is under investigation after anti-corruption investigators seized $33 million (N5.32bn) in cash from his home in May.
Prosecutors said that the stash amounted to more than 200m yuan with four counting machines out of 16 breaking down while counting the money.
Wei Pengyuan was the deputy chief of the energy administration’s coal agency when he was accused of taking bribes. The discovery of the hidden cash in his home bolstered China’s suspicion that Wei was into corruption.
