‘Acting alongside Funke Akindele is the best moment of my life’ – Fast rising actor, Ganiu Sodiq Olajide

FOR fast rising actor, Ganiu Sodiq Olajide, it has been a roller coaster since he chose to be a role interpreter few years ago.  The Mass Communication graduate of Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, reflects on how it all started for him in Nollywood and where he is headed.

How did it start for you?
Acting has always been in me from primary school, during the end of the year drama.  I would say I started fully in secondary school because we went out to do some stage plays.
You are known with Yoruba movies, why did you pitch your tent in that direction?
Aside the fact that I am Yoruba, I find Yoruba movies more challenging.  If you are not competent, you can’t feature in a Yoruba movie because of the approach and the indigenous manner expected of you in a role.
Since you started, how would you describe the experience?
The road to success is very narrow, it has not been easy but at the same time winners don’t quit and quitters don’t win.  It is just a long narrow journey full of experiences.  Experience they say is the best teacher, I am learning along the journey.  There are so many challenges in the industry, getting your skills up to date, praying to get a chance to feature in a movie, looking at getting a good role, trying to please the producers and director, it’s just hectic and challenging.  You move from one movie location to the other, the challenges, to me are one too many.
Didn’t your choice of acting clash with your parents’?
My parents are not bothered since they already know my passion for acting.  They just advice me on how to move on with life.
What are the pains and gains of acting?
I have gained much attention since I became an actor, however, there is no gain without pain.
What is it like acting alongside Funke Akindele?
Funke Akindele is one of the best in the industry, acting with her is just a privilege I grabbed with both hands.  She is a good person and encourages upcoming actors.
Who are your role models?
I look up to everyone around me in the industry. If I am to list my role models, then I will choose the likes of Taiwo Hassan, Sunny Alli, Antar Laniyan.
Are you planning to produce your own movie?
Definitely, I have plans but I am still learning.
If you have the opportunity what would you like to change in the industry?
That will be the issue of piracy, it has really eaten deep into our pockets, it is affecting production and the use of so many upcoming stars.  Production budgets need to be properly managed too.
What is your relationship status?
I am in a relationship right now.
What are your hobbies?
I love meeting people, surf the internet, anything about entertainment will get my attention.
If you were to pick someone in the industry as your partner, who would that be?
If my girlfriend were to be an actress, I would go for her, unfortunately, she is not.  So, I won’t pick anyone, they are all gorgeous.
Tell us briefly about your background.
I am the second from a family of five children, I am a graduate of Mass Communication from Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
