Captain Rooney delighted by victory over Switzerland

England’s new skipper, Wayne Rooney is still basking in the euphoria of his team’s victory over Switzerland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier, yesterday (September 8).

The Manchester United forward was particularly delighted with his side’s patience as they caught their Swiss opponents twice on the counter-attack, with Arsenal’s new boy – Danny Welbeck – finishing off two well-worked team moves to ease them to an important victory.

He said: “We knew the game against Norway on Wednesday (September 3) was going to be difficult, but tonight was always going to be more important and we were focusing on that. We defended well as a team and took our chances, catching them on the break.”
