Chocolat Royale/NAFDAC clampdown latest: ‘We will soon re-open’

THE on-going issue between Lagos top-notch eatery, Chocolat Royale and National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) would be resolved in a matter of days.

Confirming this to ENCOMIUM Weekly on Monday, June 1, 2015 a reliable source at the eatery, who pleaded anonymity, said they have allowed NAFDAC to investigate all allegations against Chocolat Royale.

“They are talking with NAFDAC and the issues would be soon be sorted out. It’s the handiwork of one of Chocolat Royale’s dismissed staff. They will soon reopen after NAFDAC’s investigations which they don’t want to jeopardize.”

NAFDAC clamped down on the eatery over allegation of use of expired canned foods condiments, among others, found there.

Some other food products found in Chocolat Royale store were said to have expired. Most of the products were also not allegedly labeled in English and therefore not registered by NAFDAC.

Two illegal cold storage rooms also allegedly found at their Victoria Island, Lagos branch were said to have been built on sewage pits and in front of toilets.

More expired products were also allegedly found by NAFDAC officials alongside more incriminating food items at the residence of the owner’s husband.

This prompted NAFDAC officials to shut down Chocolat Royale located at Plot 267A, Etim Iyang Crescent, and the Cool/Wazobia/Info GMD’s residence on 1, Karimu Kotun Street, all in Victoria Island, Lagos.

We learnt a dismissed staff of Chocolat Royale raised the allegations against Chocolat Royale owned by the wife of Lebanese businessman and the owner of Cool FM, Wazobia FM, Amin Moussalli.

Chocolat Royale was shut down by NAFDAC on Tuesday, May 19, 2015.
