CHRISTENDOM UNITE IN PRAYER FOR PEACEFUL POLLS

Christian bodies in Nigeria are united to seek divine intervention for the success of the forthcoming general elections. Christians in Nigeria are worried by the turn of elections programme, especially after the postponement of Saturday, February 14, 2015 and Saturday, February 28, 2015 elections by six weeks.

Consequently, there are uproars at different quarters which invariable affected all sectors of the economy and social circle. At one time or the other, many individuals, groups and associations had expressed displeasure over the postponement. While some engaged in peaceful protests, many sponsored advertorials in daily newspapers. Notwithstanding, the Christian bodies across the country are not folding their arms. They have been mobilizing their members through various activities. One of such is prayer meetings for divine intervention for the success of the general elections. Their major focus is that the elections would be free and fair; non-violent before, during and after the elections. Also, they have encouraged their members to unsure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC). Interestingly, some spiritual leaders had asked their members to bring the PVC to church for prayers. More so, President Goodluck Jonathan did not leave any stone unturned in prayers at different churches across the country.

Encomium Weekly reliably scooped from missions across the country on how they are responding to the spiritual exercise.

‘God should be merciful to us as a nation’

-THE REDEEMED CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF GOD

At The Redeemed Christian Church of God, it is regularly observed in every meeting. Prayer for the nation and peaceful polls enjoy maximum support and mobilization from members.

The prayer session started since the beginning of the year. Another had been slated for Friday, March 20, 2015. It will take place in all provincial and zonal headquarters across Nigeria.

The major prayer points read: “That God should be merciful to us as a nation, not to shed blood of the innocent through human rituals, armed robbers and Boko Haram killers. Anywhere blood is shed, it attracts God’s judgment. You can read Genesis 9: 5-6. We also pray that God would arise and His enemies be scattered. Another prayer is free and fair elections and enthronement of people after God’s own heart in all states of the federation. And again, we pray for peace before, during and after the election.”

‘God, take control of all the activities of INEC’

LIVING FAITH CHURCH WORLDWIDE (WINNERS’ CHAPEL)

“That’s one of the reasons we come to the service with our PVC, using it as a point of contact for divine intervention.  It is our duty as a body of Christ. We fervently pray for the nation at all our meetings”.

Here are the prayer guidelines for the forthcoming general elections at Winners’ Chapel.

‘We are called to uphold the pillar of the nation’

-Rev. (Dr.) Tunde Bamise, ARM OF GOD CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Did your ministry organize prayers for the success of the coming elections?

Any good Christian, apart from being a minister or ministry, must pray for the peace of Jerusalem, that is the word of God from the Scriptures. We must not relent in our effort to pray for the elections. If we don’t pray for them, then we have no choice than to surrender to whoever the devil puts there. So, we don’t need to be paid for it, because this is our Jerusalem and it’s our duty and that is what we are called for. We are called to stand and to mend the net and uphold the pillar of the nation.

When and where did you do that?

We do it constantly. We don’t even need to call anybody. If there is peace in the nation, the church will have peace as well. We do it regularly. It’s like a banker, you don’t need to be told before you put on your tie. So, everybody must pray for a nation.

What are your prayer points?

I am not an orthodox preacher. We pray as we are led by the Spirit. Sometimes we pray in the Spirit for more than one hour for the nation. How do you break prayer points out of that? We pray that there won’t be crises and problem and the coming election shall be peaceful. We pray for peace before, during and after the elections. We also pray that God must give us a man after His own heart.

‘God will grant our nation peaceful polls’

-Primate Ayodele, INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church

At INRI, Primate Ayodele informed that the church has been fasting for 81 days and personally, for 21 days he had not seen the light of the day. He has not been taking his bath, shaved his beard nor ate anything. This special prayer for the nation is also being observed in all their branches nationwide. We were also informed that the prayer will end on Friday, April 10, 2015.  According to the Primate who has been on the mountain for prayers some time now, “To tell you the truth, I cannot give you full details of our prayer points. But mainly, our prayer to Almighty God is that He would grant our nation a peaceful election from beginning to the end. Very soon, there will be revelation concerning the plan of God for the coming elections. Let’s still be fervent in our prayers.”

‘There will be no violence before, during and after the elections’

Pastor (Mrs.) Blessings Agboli, VICTORIOUS ARMY MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL

Did your ministry organize prayers for the success of the coming elections?

Yes.

When and where did you do that?

We started on Thursday, January 1, 2015. And at all our special programmes, it is one of the major focus of our prayers. We usually had it in our auditorium here (in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos).

What are your prayer points?

God grant our nation (Nigeria)  peaceful elections. Also, there will be no violence before, during and after the elections.

‘God should rescue the destiny of Nigeria from the hand of evil powers’

Apostle Harrison Bayagbon, IMPERIAL WORLD MISSION INTERNATIONAL

Did your ministry organize prayers for the success of the coming elections?

We normally pray for Nigeria during our service.

What are your prayer points?

Our prayer point is very simple that God should change the political order in Nigeria. God should rescue the destiny of Nigeria from the hand of evil powers that have their agents all over the nation. Christians uniting in prayer for the elections, I don’t know how that is possible. Many people do not know or understand the prophetic destiny of Nigeria. Many still believe they should vote religion instead of the will of God for the hour. The fact that Jonathan is a Christian does not mean he is the chosen one for this hour. He is not David. The prophetic energy that brought him to power has expired. Like all his predecessors, they never see the hand writing on the wall because they are blind, and the people that surround them are also blind. They that ought to know are also blind. It is a case of the blind leading the blind. CAN is divided, they are campaigning for Jonathan underground but they are not bold to openly endorse him. There are clashes of prophetic voices in the Spirit realm, some are saying yes, some are saying no. Which voice will prevail? The one that agrees with God will. If we do not prepare the way, the Lord will not come, His will not be done here on earth as it is in heaven. So, if we are praying, we must not pray in ignorance. We must do what the will of God is, not our sentiment, not what we think but what God wants. Whatever happens, there will be peace in Nigeria.
