Popular comic actor Saeed Mohammed, popularly known as Funky Mallam celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. The actor is known for his role in the comedy television series, Face To Face.
ENCOMIUM Weekly had a chat with him and he told us about his career and how he celebrated his birthday…
How does it feel like celebrating your birthday?
It feels good. It’s a great privilege to see another year so, I thank God. I celebrated my birthday in a very quiet way because when you are praising the Lord and thanking Him for making you see that particular day and you found out that there are some people who are of the same age with you that are no more you will thank God more. You don’t know if you will see the next moment, the next minute or the next day.
When you are happy you need to keep many things in mind. Some of these things are, what are you going to impact to the society because today they are celebrating you and tomorrow if you aren’t there, how will they celebrate you and tomorrow if you aren’t there, how will they celebrate you. Will they be happy that you are gone or will they be sad because of the good things you have done.
What age did you celebrate?
I celebrated 41.
How did you celebrate your birthday?
I went to the less privileged home and I had a party with some of my friends.
What are the things you’re grateful for?
I am grateful to God to have allowed me reach this height. I am also grateful for my family and friends.
Do you have any regrets?
I don’t think I should call it regret but blessings because whatever happens to me, as long as it is negative I should forget it because it’s a moment to forgive and forget. Also, a lot of good things happened to me and I am grateful to God. I am not supposed to be counting regret but blessings.
What is the greatest lesson life has taught you?
Life has taught me not to look down on anybody. If you look at your life, you will realize that somebody must have helped you. So, you have to help others because God placed you there for a purpose.
What will you say is your biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement is that I am not keeping malice with anybody and I don’t think anybody is keeping malice with me. Even if there is and the person is not ready to sort it out with me, I am not guilty.
What more do you want from God?
I just want increase and blessings.
Will you say you are fulfilled?
By the grace of God I’m a fulfilled man.
What are the childhood memories you still keep?
It was the day my mother spanked me because I stole from her purse. I stole N1 from her purse and she beat me until I fainted. Since then, she didn’t beat me again but anytime I remembered, I always comfort myself because my mother really loved me and for her to have spanked me like that, that meant I did something wrong.
What are you currently working on?
As an artiste, I have a lot of things on my timeline. I am currently working on a Hausa talk show on DSTV and Startimes and I am also working on some other things like my own movie and other programmes for DSTV. Also, I will be wedding in April 2016, by the special grace of God.
Can you review 2015?
A lot of things happened in 2015 unlike the other years. Although I was not able to make much, it doesn’t matter. What matters is in the whole year, how many people did you do good to and how many times did you pray to God or forgave people. Not how many material things I was able to buy. These things don’t count. Success is how you were able to help others no matter how small.
It was also a year that freedom came to our country because the people we respected so much, thinking they are our fathers are worst than armed robbers. They were arrested and now coughing out all the money that should sustain Nigeria for years.
What should your fans expect in 2016?
My fans should expect a lot. My programme and other programme, I will be doing for some people. The industry is getting wiser, better and stronger.
