Divers retrieve crashed AirAsia cockpit voice recorder

Divers today (Tuesday, January 13) retrieved a key piece of evidence when they found the cockpit voice recorder from the wreck of AirAsia flight QZ8501 passenger jet, which crashed on December 28.

Investigators are piecing together the sequence of events that led to the airliner plunging into the sea and killing all 162 people on board. The cockpit voice recorder, which records conversations between the pilots and air traffic controllers, was found close to where the flight data recorder was recovered from the bottom of the Java Sea.

It was now on board an Indonesian navy vessel and expected to be sent to the capital, Jakarta, for analysis.
