Ebola: Protests break out as police take away Spanish victim’s dog

Animal rights activists scuffled with police in Alcorcon (Spain) as they took away the dog belonging to the first person to contract the virus outside of Africa – Spanish nursing assistant, Teresa Romero.

A social media campaign had been launched earlier to persuade authorities in Spain to spare the dog with almost 400,000 people signing the petition to save the victim’s dog – Excalibur.

Demonstrators chanted “assassins” and threw themselves on the ground as the police van left. Madrid regional government later revealed that the mix-breed dog had been sedated, euthanized and incinerated.
