In an extraordinary show of support, European leaders will today (January 11) join a mass rally in Paris (France) amid a wave of solidarity following the bloody end to the Wednesday, January 7 Charlie Hebdo attacks.
Offers of assistance poured in from all quarters after French police killed militant gunmen in two sieges within Paris. The horror of the Paris attack was so universal that even foes of the west such as North Korea and Cuba sent condolences, while bitter enemies Israel and Iran were united in their condemnation of the slaughter.
The attacks on Charlie Hebdo offices, a Paris-based satirical newspaper, prompted vigils in several cities around the world to declare “Je suis Charlie” (I am Charlie) in a show of support for free speech, while the hashtag #JeSuisCharlie has been tweeted more than five million times.
