The Permanent Voters’ Card (also called PVC) is a smart card-based Voter ID, which holds voter’s information such as bio-data, biometrics and passport photograph. The card technology provides adequate security features to reduce vulnerability to counterfeiting. It will be used for identification and authentication of voters during elections, starting 2015.
– Eligibility to collect Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that only those who:
1 – have registered before
2 – have their names in the voters’ register
3 – have a temporary voter card (TVC)
4 – have lost their TVC, but their identity can be confirmed
5 – are physically present at the collection centre; are eligible for the PVC.
– Where to collect your PVC
The distribution of the PVC will be at Polling Units (PU) spread across the state between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm from Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7. Those who are unable to collect theirs during the specified period can do so from the INEC office in their Local Governement Area (LGA) afterwards.
– How to get your PVC
Here are the steps to collect your PVC at the polling unit:
1 – The voters’ register will be publicly displayed at the polling unit
2 – When the prospective voter arrives, the distribution officer checks and confirms that he/she is in the distribution register of voters
3 – If the name of the prospective voter is found on the distribution register of voters, he/she shall search through the PVC cards for his/her PVC
4 – The distribution officer then requests prospective voter to thumbprint and sign the PVC collection section of the distribution register of voters
5 – The distribution officer then retrieves the Temporary Voter Card (TVC) from the prospective voter and hands over the PVC
6 – In the event that the prospective voter does not have a TVC (but his/her name is found on the register of voters), the prospective voter is made to sign an attestation form and affix his/her passport photograph.
