‘I’m not a full-time actress’ -OMOLARA OLUKOTUN

Omolara Olukotun is not a full time actress despite being on parade in some Nollywood flicks. She is more of a business woman who deals mostly in shoes. A few weeks ago she added to her business chain as she opened another outlet in Lekki Lagos. Called Larrit Shoe Village, a few faces in the Yoruba movie industry witnessed the opening. Omolara also used the event to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged as she announced she has adopted five children from a motherless babies home.

In this chat with ENCOMIUM Weekly, she explains her passion in selling shoes and endearing humanitarian services.

Let us into your background briefly?

My name is Omolara Olukotun. We are celebrating two things today, my new shop opening in Lekki and I want to announce that I have adopted five children from a motherless babies home because that is what God has put in my heart to do. I made a pledge that everything I make from my business, I’m going to reserve five percent for their welfare, education and others

Is shoe selling the only business you do to make a living?

Yes, this is my source of livelihood, this is what people know me with. I have passion for shoes business and I have been doing this since 2003 when I was in school. I became more serious with it when I was in the University in Ghana, I used to sell to students in hostels. When I finished school, I told myself I don’t want to work for anybody, I decided to set up a shop

Why are you adopting children?

My intension is to support them, to take up every responsibility required of a mother, their school fees and other things are on me and God. I want to give back to the society. I am not an orphan, though my story is an amazing one

Are you married?

No, I m not married, but the person I m dating loves children and charity. He is a giver. He has touched lives in his own way

What is delaying you from getting married?

God’s time is the best. It is between me and my boyfriend

Would you say this business has been lucrative?

We can only thank God, we are blessed

How affordable are your shoes?

We have different quality shoes. There are high end shoes and there are the ones within the reach of everybody that does not mean we don’t stock quality shoes.

Tell us other sides of you that most people don’t know?

I have a couple of friends in the movie industry. Sometimes when I’m in their location they invite me to play one or two roles. Later, I realised I can actually act, but they are just my friends. I’m not fully into acting, that’s not my line, I only have passion for selling shoes. I also supply shoes to artists and celebrities. I have a contract with an airline, they want me to customize shoes for their cabin crew.
