Nigerians reject new N100 note (2)

The proposed introduction of N100 centenary note by President Goodluck Jonathan has been receiving condemnation from all corners of the country since it was announced a couple of days back.

Some Nigerians ENCOMIUM Weekly spoke to kicked against the idea as they described it as nothing but a waste of resources.

‘I believe it’s an avenue for some people to siphon funds’

It’s a grand plan to acquire funds for 2015 elections. It can’t have any meaningful impact on the economy.

– YINKA ADEWUNI

‘It has no relevance to our economic growth’

I do not welcome such a thing at a time like this. It has no relevance to our economic growth of the nation at such a time as this.

– LOLA SUNMONU

‘It’s Jonathan’s administration that lacks focus’

Introduction of new N100 note is a total waste of resource. We have a lot of pressing issues to attend to not new note at all. We need to be very sincere with ourselves. It’s Jonathan’s administration that lacks focus. Maybe, he is just looking for a way of raising funds illegitimately for his presidential campaign.

– LOWO ADEGBENJO

‘I don’t think what we need at the moment is centenary note’

We’re okay with the one we’re used to. The idea is to create an avenue for misappropriation of funds. Federal Government should just concentrate on the country’s security challenges. We don’t want new N100 note now.

– YETUNDE ADEOYE

‘New N100 note makes no sense’

The so called commemorative note makes no sense to me. What’s the purpose? What are we celebrating? Of course, it would have negative economic consequences. It would certainly trigger off inflation if not properly handled. What about the cost of printing. That is absolutely unnecessary?

– BRIGHT ELENDU

‘It’s a waste of resource’

Nigerian government loves to waste funds. I don’t see any need for a new N100 note under any guise. The centenary has come and gone. So, this is baseless. I’m not an economist. So, I don’t really know how it would rock the financial system.

– KEN MOSES

‘It is a valueless thing’

We like these kind of valueless things in this part of the world. We just keep changing money at will. Surely, additional cost has been incurred and they tell us the country needs to borrow funds to run the country. I’m really indifferent about it.

– ABDULKABIR KUYE

‘Our security and others should be their priority’

N100 in coins or note or plastic remains a N100! Its the purchasing power that determines what it can buy. Not the colour or design! These people are either confused or clueless about the politics and programmes that will benefit the layman.

There is insecurity, no electricity, unemployment, corruption, etc to name a few. The priority should be to put food on the table and address the basic things the average man needs. Not change of texture or colour or composition of a 100 naira note!

– BALOGUN OLAYIWOLA

‘Not the best of times to unveil this’

A case of misplaced priority. It will be difficult to convince me its Jonathan’s good intention for this country.

– OLUBUNMI OLADAPO

‘I don’t think it is the right thing to do at this time’

Nigeria has a lot of problems that need urgent attention. To me, it is not a welcome development. I don’t think it will have any economic solution, this is not the first time they will be introducing new note.

– FUNKE OLABISI

‘It is a welcome development’

That is thoughtful of him. It is a welcome development though there are a lot of things that require more urgent attention. It shouldn’t. I don’t think it is.

– BISI MORAKINYO
