Next generation network, Globacom and some indigenes of Ibadan on Thursday paid obeisance to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland at the grand finale of Ibadan Cultural Festival 2016 which featured the Oke Badan festival powered by the telecoms giant.
Globacom team joined the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) to pay obeisance at the ceremonies held on the grounds of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty Road, Ibadan where the national telecoms operator mounted its colourful gazebos and other iconic brand messages to the admiration of all.
In a colourful display of the people’s culture, different social groups formed by indigenes of the city, displayed the richness of the Yoruba culture with their attractive traditional ensembles of varying designs as they also filed out to appreciate the monarch.
The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) had earlier conducted a town parade led by its President-General, Chief Wole Akinwande.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, was resplendent in his regal traditional attire as he warmly greeted the different groups who came one after the other to pay homage to him.
Among dignitaries who graced the occasion were the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Balogun; Engr. Seyi Makinde; Chief (Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja and the representative of the Ooni of Ile Ife, Oba Eniitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja 1.
The national telecoms network said it collaborated with the CCII for this year’s celebrations due to its interest in supporting major cultural activities around the nation to entrench cohesion and unity in Nigeria.
Globacom is the main sponsor of the 2016 Oke ‘Badan festival which is a major feature of the Ibadan Week Cultural Festival.
