Police have, today (September 12), foiled an Afghan gang suspected to have made up to £1 million a year by selling smartphones stolen from London train commuters.
According to police, the gang on its own accounts for a large proportion of crime on London’s transport network as they allegedly employs pickpockets who operate across the city’s Tube and rail services.
In today’s raids by officers from British Transport Police, thirteen men – both Afghan and British nationals – were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to handle stolen goods and money laundering. Three others were held for immigration-related offences.
