Primary school teacher who sniffed pupil’s feet spared jailed term

A primary teacher who admitted he played “sniff and tickle” on his pupils has escaped jail term.

Martyne Airey (51) instructed misbehaving children to stay back after classes, he then asked them to take off their shoes and socks; after which they had to pick a card to determine if he smelled their toes or tickled their soles.

Prosecutor, Abigail Hudson, at Preston Crown Court, said at an earlier hearing: “Three of the boys came back from Mr Airey’s class and were asked why they were late, and at that point disclosed the game they had been playing”.

She further said, “The parents made this public and other parents asked their children if they had played this game too”.

He is to be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years after pleading guilty at Preston Crown Court to eight counts of sexual activity with a child under 13.
