A rare respiratory virus has forced more than one thousand children to be admitted to hospitals throughout the United States (US) Midwest, officials have said.
The virus causes symptoms synonymous with cold – but worse – and, according to officials, is prompting up to 30 children a day to seek care at one Kansas City hospital, where about 15% of the youngsters were placed in intensive care.
In total, 10 states have reported outbreaks: Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Georgia.
