A teenage couple took their own lives because cultural differences meant they could “never be together”, an inquest into their death heard today (August 19).
The love-pair – Mert Karaoglan (18) and Charleigh Disbrey (15) held hands and ran into the path of a train, because they believed their relationship would never be approved by his family, who are of Turkish descent, it was claimed.
They left behind a video which explained their decision and sent a picture showing them smiling on a bridge over a railway line.
They started dating just one month before their deaths in June last year.
