 DSS RELEASES SICK EKITI LAWMAKER AFTER 19 DAYS IN DETENTION

The Department of State Services (DSS) has released the detained Ekiti State House of Assembly member, Honourable Afolabi Akanni. Akanni who was arrested on March 4, 2016, was freed Tuesday (March 22) evening.

He was arrested over an alleged forgery during the Peoples Democratic Party’s House of Representatives primaries held in Ekiti Nor​​th Federal constituency and assault on Justice John Adeyeye of the state High Court.

 

WE ARE PUMPING N350BN INTO NIGERIA’S ECONOMY IN 3 MONTHS – KEMI ADEOSUN

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has announced the Federal Government’s plan to inject N350 billion into the economy in the next few months in order to stimulate it.

She made the disclosure at the two-day National Economic Council (NEC) retreat saying efforts had been put in place to ensure that the spending on capital projects trickles down to all Nigerians. According to her, part of the money would be used to offset contractual debts.

 

PROPHETESS ABDUCTS, DUPES MAN OF N3M IN LAGOS

A self-acclaimed prophetess named Victoria Okere of the New Revelation Church in Ogba Oke Ira area of Lagos State, has been arrested by the state police command for allegedly abducting a man identified as Wisdom Aworegbe and defrauding him of N3 million.

The accused was arrested by policemen attached to Ikeja divisional police station, after a complaint was lodge by relatives of the victim. According to the family members, the victim was about to connive with Wisdom to sell a property belonging to his sister to the prophetess when trouble started.

 

FG DECLARES MARCH 25, MARCH 28 AS PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, 25th and Monday, 28th March, 2016 as public holidays to mark the Good Friday and Easter celebrations. The minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement by the acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido on Tuesday.

Dambazau enjoined all the Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to support and co-operate with President Muhammadu Buhari in his sustained efforts to build a peaceful, united and virile nation.

SOLDIER STABS A WOMAN TO DEATH IN FRONT OF HER KIDS AT AKURE BARRACKS

Shock filled the atmosphere at the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Owena Barracks in Akure, Ondo State, after a Soldier allegedly stabbed a 25-year-old woman, Juliana Adeyemo, to death in front of her children.

One of the deceased’s children said to be four-year-old, was able to identify the killer of his mother as a soldier since the sordid act was committed in the absence of their father. The husband of the deceased Wale Adeyemo has also confirmed that the killer carried out the act on his wife in the presence of her two children, stating that there were many cuts on her body which indicated that she was stabbed to death.

 

HOW NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISM ALLEGEDLY FAILED STUDENT FOR REPORTING KOREDE BELLO’S ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL  

The frequent absence of talented Nigerian singer, Korede Bello, from his school, The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) has allegedly caused the failure of one of his school mates. According to reports, the lecturers at the Ogba based institution in Lagos had even threatened their resignation if the singer took semester exams.

The 18-year-old singer, however, later apologized during a meeting with the school’s management. Reports have surfaced that the student who exposed Korede’s absence from school has been failed by the institute for incriminating the Mavin singer.

 

GOD IS ANGRY WITH BUHARI, HE IS INCOMPETENT, CLUELESS – FAYOSE

Against the background of the violence that apparently characterized the rerun elections in Rivers state, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that God is angry with him.

According to the governor, the president superintended over elections that were remarkably bloody. The governor who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday (March 22) chronicled the lists of elections held under the present government, stating that power belonged to God and should not be abused by any individual no matter how highly placed.

 

‘THOSE WHO STEAL MUST BE PUNISHED FOR THEIR DEEDS’ – OKONJO IWEALA

Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, former Minister of Finance, says that although those who steal must be made to pay for their deeds, the best way to fight corruption is by employing technology and building institutions.

The Lazard senior advisor, who spoke at the Africa CEO forum on Monday, said corruption must be fought in two ways. “We have to fight corruption in two ways; one is by punishing those who steal, and making sure they pay for what they do”. She said.

 

NOMORELOSS: HOW LATE SINGER REPORTEDLY DIED OF TYPHOID

The death of late Olumuyiwa Osinuga also known as Nomoreloss shocked the entertainment industry and Nigeria as a whole and the cause of his death has been revealed. Nomoreloss who died on Monday, March 21 was taken to a hospital in OPEBI, Ikeja, Lagos, following complaints of chest pain and typhoid.

According to insiders, the singer was also sick in January contrary to earlier reports. The singer whose hit, Iyawo Asiko brought him to fame was working on several projects and stayed out of public domain to concentrate better until his demise.

 

JUDGE WITHDRAWS FROM SARAKI’S CASE

Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has withdrawn from a Fundamental Right Suit filed by senate President Bukola Saraki to quash the charges of false declaration of assets brought against him by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Kafarati explained that his integrity had been called into question in the matter; hence he would disqualify himself from it.

Having read a report of an online medium accusing him of corruption to the tune of N2BN, he said that if he ruled against or for Saraki, his decision would be interpreted differently. In the circumstance, he disqualify himself from the case and sends the case file to the Chief Judge for re- assignment to another judge.

 

RAPISTS STRANGLE JAMB CANDIDATE, DUMP CORPSE INSIDE THE BUSH                               

Joan Egemba, a 20-year-old girl has been stabbed and strangled to death by some suspected rapists in the Ijebu Igbo Area of Ogun State. Joan, who bagged a National Diploma in Accountancy from the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, enrolled for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The deceased left her home in Odo Eran, Sango-Ota area around12pm on March 3, for the National Open University of Nigeria centre in Awa Ijebu, where she was posted to sit for the exam the following day. She was, however, abducted by suspected rapists while her corpse found in a bush at the back of a secondary school in Ijebu Igbo with cuts in her thighs.
